¿ PORQUÉ DEBERÍAMOS LEER LITERATURA AFRICANA ? / WHY WE SHOULD READ AFRICAN LITERATURE?

A la mayoría de las personas la literatura africana les suena a chino y ni siquiera la tienen en consideración cuando se refieren a la palabra literatura. Para muchos Africa es un lugar en el que la literatura no tiene cabida...piensan que los africanos demasiado tienen ya con sobrevivir y luchar contra el hambre, las guerras y la pobreza y que seguramente tras tanta catástrofe  no tienen tiempo para escribir y que si lo hacen deben hablar de cosas tristes o devastadoras o de cosas que nadie quiere oir. Pues a ésas personas es a las que quiero dirijirme especialmente en este post, a vosotros que no nos conocéis ni sabéis quien somos en realidad sabed que sí existe literatura africana para todos los gustos y colores y que además no sabéis lo que os estáis perdiendo. En un intento de acercamiento quiero nombraros algunas de las razones por las que creo que os gustaría leer nuestra literatura:

For the big majority, the African literature sounds strange and they don´t even consider it when talking about the word literature. For many Africa is a place where literature can´t exist...they think that Africans are a bit too occupated trying to survive and struggle against hunger, wars, poverty and that after so many turmoils they don´t have time to write or if they have to write they may write about sad or devastating things or about things that nobody wants to listen about. Well I want to dedicate this post especially to all of you who think that way I want you to know that African Literature exists for any taste and colors and furthermore you guys don´t know what you´re missing. In an attempt to approachment, I want to number you some of the reasons why I think that you would like to read our literature:

1. Ampliaríais vuestro bagaje cultural.
2. Empatizaríais más con el pueblo africano y su causa.
3. Veríais, como bien dijo el ecritor africano Binyavanga Wanaina, que "Africa no es un país sino un Continente" lleno de historias que merecen la pena ser contadas y escuchadas.
4. Evitaríais caer en "el peligro de una sola historia" ( discurso de la escritora Chimamanda Adichie difundida por la plataforma TED que os invito que veais)  y pasaríais de escuchar historias de africanos contadas por otros a leer historias de africanos contadas por africanos.
5. Viajaríais con vuestra mente a un continente  hermoso y fascinante.
6. Derribaríais vuestras barreras mentales y descubriríais que al final todos tenemos algo en común.
7. Disfrutaríais de una nueva literatura y como consecuencia haríais que subiese la demanda de libros africanos en Europa y el mundo, con lo cual algunos escritores africanos podrían hacer su sueño realidad.

1. You would widen your cultural horizons.
2. You would empathize with the African People and their cause.
3. You would see that, as the African writer Binyavanga Wanaina once said, "Africa is not a country but a Continent" full of stories that  are worthy  to be ridden and heart.
4. You would avoid falling into "the danger of a single story" (speech delivered by the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie Ngozie spread by TED which I invite you all to see) and you would  switch by listening to stories of African told by others to stories of Africans told by Africans.
5. You would travel with your mind to a beautiful and fascinating continent.
6. You would  demolish your mental barriers and you would finally discover that we all have anything in common.
7. You would enjoy a new literature and as a result you would uprise the demand of African books in Europe and in the world, therefore some African writers would make their dreams come true.


Hay muchas más razones pero estas siete para mi son las esenciales.
